"Don't spend the evening too guarded; your chaces of having a nice evening will be sure to go down then,"
"Do you plan on taking your own advice?" she asked Laurent almost immediately. He seemed to be more guarded then she ever was. There was something that made her think that maybe he more carefully guarded then she was. That he would spend more time alone then she ever did. She wondered how he would take what she said. She hadn't meant it malicious or something like that. She just didn't think that she should be the one giving her advice on not being guarded.
"And there I go again saying the wrong things," she said to him. If he was half as perceptive as she thought that Laurent was then she was sure by now that he would know that she was not daughter of the courts. yes she was born in the courts and yes she was raised by a daughter of the court but she had never gone through anything that actually involved the courts. She was raised on the outside and it was as plain as day that she was once she opened her mouth to say something. She had to start thinking again otherwise she would be thrown to the sharks in no time flat.

Her immediate reply struck Laurent as snappish. The way she spoke seemed a bit immature almost, but the meaning behind her words almost made Laurent want to lack. Taking his own advice? It made Laurent think of how contradicting he could be at times and how confusing. It was only another reason no one ever came close to even wanting to understand him. "Perhaps, but I'm no the one who appears to be in danger of lacking a good time," He had responded shortly afterwards. He would not have said Alenya was saying the wrong things, but just did not say them in the correct form.
Alenya seemed to be the type who was trying to be on a certain behavior. It was a give away she was not as experienced in the courts as she would have liked to come off as. However, Laurent thought her to be bright though she was being held back by the expectations she wanted to uphold. True or not, Laurent had seen and known such a feeling. "Just another smothered flame," He muttered partly to himself. It was another one of those moments he had where he would briefly forget reality and at the same time be conversing with someone.
'You're forgeting again,' He thought to himself suddenly. Laurent just then realized how distracted he had been for the past few moments with this girl. As he glanced around the Thron Room, there appeared to be nothing amiss and everything seemed just as it should. He internally sighed. To him it felt like the same scene re-playing itself over and over again. There sat the King and Queen while the subjects danced and spoke to each other joyously. It seemed everyone had a place and part. It seemed. That was the key word in that sentence.
His eyes looked over catching a few more stares. Laurent was not surrised to recognize them as the same group of conservatives from earlier that evening. Laurent did not have to be a mind reader to know what they were thinking. They wanted him, a "foreigner", out. It did amaze Laurent to a degree on how perisistent someone could be without actually talking or doing any direct confrontation. That was how most people were though. They tried to avoid getting their ands dirty while getting their point across. 'Typical fairy behavior,' He thought.

"You really think so?" Alenya asked him. She didn't see how he thought that he didn't look like he was lacking a good time. He was here alone after all but he seemed distracted. Perhaps he was waiting for osmeone that would be a reasonable guess would it not be? But something told her that it wasn't his lack of companionship that had him distracted. It looked like the same thing that kept her distracted through out the first half of the entire night.
"You seem to be more on edge then I am," she observed when he kept looking in other directions. She had a feeling that it wasn't for the same reason she did it from time to time. No she was trying to make sure that Nenetski wasn't following her or watching her with that look of contempt on his face. God she just wanted to wipe the look off of his face and she would have if she didn't need his help. She regretted needing his help too. But perhaps Laurent too was looking for something in the courts that he simply could not find.
"What do you say to completely abandoning the courts for the night?" Alenya asked him. It was a rather bold move for her. Normally she would just stay and shrink into the background but why put herself through all the miserary. Nobody would pay attention to her here. "I don't know about you but I know that nobody will miss me."

"What do you say to completely abandoning the courts for the night?"
Tempting.
"I don't know about you but I know that nobody will miss me."
For a few seconds he was actually not sure how to respond. If Alenya wanted to head out, there was not stopping her. Laurent definitely would not mind. However, he was slightly foggy on whethere she meant abandoning as in forgetting she was interested or as in leave for the night period. "If you want to, don't let me stop you," He commented knowing that whichever of the two she meant, he could not do. Laurent had his reasons for showing up at the ball and one was because he was hoping to see someone soon. Even if he was not, he had his own more personal reasons for keeping a sheild up.
The idea of getting frash air just for a few seconds was nice. Laurent was cold not only mentally but physically as well. If someone toughed him the first thing they would notice would probably be that his skin was nearly as cold as ice. Naturally, Laurent preferred cooler climates and the fact that this was a ball did not help. When so many people moved about so quickly only more body heat was produced. Laurent figured that would happen, but it still managed to create a ripple of disconentess within him. He suddenly could not wait for the night to be over and to feel the cool night breeze on his skin. It would be great.
He could have probably thought of something to say to Alenya, but what would that be? 'A time to speak, a time to keep silence,' He thought to himself remembering something like that once in his youth. So, the young fairy stayed quiet knowing by now he probably did come off more on guard than Alenya herself did. She had already noticed it, but there was nothing much he could do about it. It really was not like him to be so...uncomfortable. Tonight everything just seemed different for some reason and he was not sure why.

"Well I'm going to go outside," Alenya decided. She needed some time to gather her thoughts which decided that they didn't want to come and form coherence anymore. It was rather sad actually. Normally she was able to come up with a come back on a moments notice now if someone were to antagonize her she would certainly end up making a fool out of herself. Now that was a terrible thought.
"Maybe I'll see you later," she said. "Sooner rather then later I hope. You're fun to talk to." With that she smiled and moved away from Laurent for the time being and went out to the balcony so that the night air could cool her face.
Alenya hadn't realized how hot it had been until she had been outside in the cold air. It calmed her or so it seemed. Her head was definately cleared now and she ho ped that it could stay that way for a while.
